KPM Bursary holder I am.

'For this year(2012), all SPM leavers that get 9A+ and above will automatically get Bursary by the government through KPM'

That's an awfully good news. But the downside of it is that there are no more JPA scholarship for SPM leavers, EXCEPT for engineering(I want to be a dentist, if you're curious).

Well, I am NOT saying that studying in public university is anything worse but the mentality of studying overseas for degree has been carved, painted, screwed, pasted in my childish mind from (I think) kindergarten so when there is an opportunity laying in front of me, NO way I'm going to lose it. Although that means I have to give up my offered place in AsasiPintar, UKM (my dream foundation programme for public university).

So, here I am in INTI International University taking 18 months CIE A level programme with subject combination of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths. I purposely take the 18 months programme because, hey we will never know what will happen in the future so the faster the better.

Someone wise(not really) told me before A level is really just studying past years papers. Well, I kinda half agree with that. Just finished my AS (except for paper 1) and yes, past years do help (A LOT) but as my lecturers always said those CIE people are creative in preparing question(hell yes!) you still need to be aware of the techniques and some other secret ingredients to answer the questions.

About the bursary programme, we the lab-rat batch aka the 'pioneer batch' there are still lots of things that are not clear especially about the degree programme's scholarship by JPA and some other small(medium if i can say) things such as the IELTS fees, university application fees, and the list of universities provided by JPA(ridiculous list, I say).

Nonetheless, I am truly grateful for the Bursary as going to private universities only comes in my dreams but it is now my reality and I will have to struggle(insyaa Allah), for the upcoming degree programme, the same as my other colleagues  in the pre-university programme.

Till then, Assalamualaikum. :)

    1. that is what i've been informed by a JPA officer(not really sure if he is 'the' officer or just someone assigned to answer questions without really knowing, but thinking positive I really hope it's the first) when I went to their office last year.

    2. I see. They told me that too.. btw me too got bursary. Thought that's the main reason why I couldnt secure a JPA-MARA offer. Anyhow, did any MOE officials come to you guys bursary holders what you are going through before getting a scholarship to oversea? Unconditional offers seems a bit confusing though.

    3. Basically, they(MOE officer) came during the enrolment day briefing us about the bursary programme. What's included,do's and don'ts, etc. But they did not brief us about the JPA scholarship as it is by the JPA not MOE thus they cant explain more. The JPA officers emailed to our lecturers saying that they are going to meet us soon(since May or so actually) so, maybe only that time everything will be cleared out. May i asked, you are the 2012 SPM leaver yes?

    4. Yes, indeed I am. Basically, would you recommend anyone taking this bursary? I guess I'm so confused in this. Your blog is among the very few I could find from Google holding the title of a bursary holder :)

  2. I think there is no harm in taking this bursary except if you want to study overseas, the chances are slim but if you dont give it a try you'll end up with the 'what if' question. Saying so because you can continue your studies in listed local private universities. Nonetheless, it's all up to you and you might want to ask other's opinions too. I am a nobody, yet. :)

  3. Why would you say that I stand a slim chance to study oversea? Is it because Top 50 uni is too much or the technical issues with bursary? I'm going for Economics/Finance course. I think it would be so absurd to reject me for JPA-MARA if they arent going to send me oversea with this bursary. Anyway its good to talk to someone who were taking this bursary.

  4. I'm saying as a future medic/dentist student. Please do forgive me to make such assumption but noneheless just bear in mind for the competition for placing.

    1. Clinical courses like medic, dentistry, pharmacy need to get into Top 10 uni instead of Top 50 right? The placement into Oxbridge is out of my expectation though. I dont expect getting into one of the Top 10.

God knows how confused I am about this bursary. Even teachers couldnt say much about it."

      Thank you though.

  5. Anyone taking dentistry? Currently I finished my AS level by taking five subjects(chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, thinking skills). And I made up my mind and I wanted to drop PHYSICS in my A2. is it a good decision? Is any bursary student not taking PHYSICS in A2?

    1. Wow, 5??? Seriously??? Even 4 seems too much for me. Try to look into the universities websites, most would want chemistry and maybe bio, not sure for physics though.

  6. Assalamualaikum . I also a bursary holder for spm 2013 . I'm interested in engineering. So , bursary holders will automatically secure the jpa scholarship for the degree ?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Nope, you must get the required grades and an unconditional offer from the listed university which I guess for engineering not that hard, but still, only my assumption. Then, insyaallah you'll get the jpa scholarship for degree. But anything can happen. Shrugs..

  8. What about you sis ? Where are u studying now ? Is a level hard ? I'm so scared if I cannot score 3a's . if so , where can I pursue my study with low a level result ? Omg . tell me more about a level . please sis .

    1. I aimed for dentistry but I didn't get an offer from the unis so I'm continuing dentistry locally. A level is not that hard. Dont skip class and do a LOT of exercises from the past year questions. I would say with enough efforts, insyaallah you'll get good results. I did my A level at INTI Nilai and got 3A* and 1A. I'm not really sure about engineering but most of my friends have no problem getting at least one offer. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. :)

  9. Oh thank you for letting me ask questions . I do have many questions in my head right now . hahaha . I applied iism(international Islamic school of Malaysia ) for my pre u. Is it a good choice ?

    1. In term of the school, I really can't say much because I'm not familiar with it and it was not in the list during my time but I would say environment help shape ourselves and who we become so choose wisely. About the pre u, I'm assuming that you're referring to A level. It really doesn't matter where you take the a level it's sort of like SPM and STPM, the certificate and the grades that it carries is of most important btu as you've experienced, school help shape our personality, attitude but it's not everything try istikharah and tawakal for whatever lies ahead when you've tried your best because Allah knows better. :) p/s you might also want to search a little bit more about IB.

      Delete
    2. IB ? in shaa Allah , I'll try to do some research on it. Can I know what is the least requirement or least score in a level to get the jpa scholarship , or we just need to get the offer from the listed university ?

      Delete
    3. I think it would be cgpa 3.5 or BBB for A level

      Delete
    4. assalamualaikum , i attended the seminar about this bursary . he (the guy from iism) said that we actually can secure ourselves that jpa scholarship . ohoohohh . then , i told my parents and confirmed it . hahahah i'm not very good in english so i dont want to attend any interviews . hahahhaha . i hope this is the best choice .

      Delete
    5. So, you chose iism and a level. What subjects do you take?

      Delete
    6. yuppp . i want to be an engineer , so i'll take science , consists of 4 subjects ; biology , mathematics , physics and chemistry . omg its all killer subject . so , in your opinion , is alevel is easy as the spm or it is much harder ?

      Delete
    7. What do you expect, of course they are harder but don't worry you'll get accustomed to it. :D my advice, just do all the past year questions

      Delete
    8. okayy thanks . oh before i forgot , there is somebody said to me about its allowance , that rm430 sometimes we shall not get it . is it true ? its not all about the money but i dont want to burden my family actually , hehehe . and another question , you are now studying dentistry locally and also sponsored by jpa or what ?

      Delete
    9. Yep, that's true. Rm430 per month and for me that was more than enough. I can even save some for my ielts prep class at British Council which worth every cent.

  10. hi would like to ask if spm 2012 but didnt apply for bursary for foundation level, can i still apply for bursary for my degree at local private uni? Im aiming for dentistry too. thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. First of all, bursary is only for pre university. Afterwards it's going to be JPA that's going to be the sponsor so I think you have to be a bursary recipient to get the sponsorship program. But, I've never heard of your situation before so it would be better if you ask JPA directly. Sorry :(

      Delete
    2. okay thanks anyway. All the best to u.

  11. Hi, I'm aiming for dentistry too
Just to ask u 1 question
For those who can't get into the top 10 uni in the world, they can get into local private uni and sponsored by JPA, right? ( The top 10 uni list is RIDICULOUS)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry it took me so long to reply but, yeah, you're supposed to get the sponsorship if you pass the minimum requirement and got a place at one of the listed unis.

  12. i would like to ask that is there any bursary students who are successfully to go overseas after their a levels for medic or dentistry so far?

  13. What is the minimun requirement for IELT ?

    1. No minimum requirements for IELTS for bursary. It depends on your course and university.

  14. hiii. can I go to private uni like msu fr foundation under bursary ?

    1. For pre-u I think you can go to either ipta, alevel or ib. Then go to ipts, try checking bursary's latest list. BUT why are thinking of ipts. Ipta should be you first choice for ipta

  15. KAK help me.
I'm one of the SPM 2014 bursary holder.
    But but but...
I dont have any idea about the bursary.
And i want to apply the jpa scholarship for engineering for overseas (france german korea japan).
But if i do that, will i lose the bursary?
    -HELP NEEDED TT.TT-

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nope, you wont lose the bursary until the last the day that bursary ask you to reply. But, engineering is relatively easy to get a place so, you shouldn't have any problem getting your degree from uk universities. But, if you wanna further your studies in one of those(france, grrman etc) universities, just apply but keep track of bursary's due date. All the best!

  16. Assalamualaikum sis. I am one of the bursary holder for spm2014 too. I just want to ask whether choosing this bursary is a good choice? I want to further my studies in pharmacy. All the other prestigious scholarship does not really offer for pharmacy course except for Maybank and bank negara which offer scholarship for every course .And what I heard if we choose bursary we cannot accept any offer from MARA. So currently I'm in a dilemma whether to just choose bursary or apply for other scholarships too. Please help me out. I don't really have any preference whether to further my studies locally or overseas for my degree. Anywhere is fine. Thank you

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Are you sure anywhere is fine?? If the local will save you a great length of time. Sorry, for pharmacy I'm not really sure about the process but I can say is apply for other scholarship first, then only accept bursary. And if the due date for bursary is later than mara, apply mara first. If you don't get mara's scholarship, then bursary come into picture

  17. Hi, I am also a holder of the KPM Bursary for SPM 2014. I'm thinking about taking Actuarial Science in UK after I finish my A levels. Could you explain a little bit more regarding the JPA scholarship we opt to get after A levels (if we obtain good A-level grades, of course). I just read your comments and what is this I read about the top 10 universities? I am in serious need of help! :(

  19. Assalamualaikum kak Amira! Thank God finally i found an entry about kpm bursary. I, just like fellow commenters, am a kpm bursary holder for SPM 2014. I want to pursue my studies in pharmacy. I'm confused whether to study for foundation in public university (my choice is asasi pintar ukm) or A-Level. And like you, i dream to study abroad. However, after reading these comments, i found out the chance to study abroad is quite slim because i must get unconditional offer from the listed universities by JPA. So if i choose asasi, and i achieve the required CGPA to study abroad via JPA Bursary, i need to take IELTS right? And if i go to asasi, does that mean my chance to study abroad is slimmer than taking A-Level? In my opinion (please note that i dont know much about the whole thing), it is better to go for asasi because i can secure my place in public university in case i dont get the unconditional offer from listed universities. and for us KPM Bursary holders, will we get the JPA Bursary automatically if we achieve the minimum requirement OR do we have to apply for it and have to go through an interview? I'm sorry for the lengthy questions. I wish you the best for your educational journey, kak!

    1. Hmmm hmmm. Firstly, I'm sorry for my late reply and secondly, pharmacy is really out of my usual stuff. But my friend who did asasi said that to go abroad, people usually do alevel or ib or other pre u program. But, I'm not really sure about asasi students furthering their studies abroad. I do not know how's the competition for pharmacy. But I do know that bursary people don't have to go for an interview for jpa to continue the scholarship. All the best for your studies!

    1. For medic, dentistry, pharmacy I would say other than bursary is better and for other courses. Depends on the country offered.

    2. But why? I can't say that i oppose,as i don't have much experiences as yours.😀 Btw, where are u studying now? If u're in private univ, would u say that, study in private univ is better than local for studying medicine? And can u relate this with the competition for foundation students in public univ to secure place in medicine for their degree.

      I am a 2015 spm leaver, a junior i would say.

      Thanks in advanced.
